Makerere University

Uganda

Makerere University is one of the oldest Universities on the African Continent and has by that fact undertaken a vast amount of research in all fields.  The College of Health Sciences (CHS) at Makerere University has made a big contribution to research and has hosted several landmark trials in the field of HIV, TB and malaria. In addition, the College of Health Sciences together with its affiliated partners the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) and Makerere Lung Institute (MLI) have carried out several trials and studies funded by EDCTP.

Makerere University will lead the DM screening Work Package.

 

 

Makerere University (Motto: We Build For The Future) that started in 1922. The medical schools, that began in 1924 and is currently known as Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MakCHS). MakCHS a constituent college of Makerere University, was founded in 2007. The college consists of five Schools: School of Medicine, School of Biomedical Sciences, School of Public Health, School of Health Sciences and School of Dentistry.

The college is located on the famous Mulago Hill, one of the seven hills of Kampala city, next to Mulago National Referral Hospital, which serves as one the teaching sites in addition to Kiruddu National Referral Hospital, Kawempe National Referral Hospital, and the Women and Neonatal Super specialised Hospital. The taught courses include both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in basic sciences, biomedical sciences, public health, health sciences and human medicine of various disciplines and specialties.
